Thrup'nny Bits are a three part harmony group from the UK and are Barbara and Gareth Wyatt and Des Patalong. Barbara and Gareth hail from Radford Semele near Leamington Spa in Warwickshire and Des comes from Coventry, which should still be in Warwickshire but isn't.
Thrup'nny Bits is the successor group to a four part group called Ninepenny Marl. Our other member retired through ill health. At that point the three of us decided to develop a new identity and worked on some new material for three voices.
We sing a variety of styles of music, though mainly from the traditional folk cannon, and some are several hundred years old and in Middle English. However, we also sing more recently written material, some parodies and some music hall and comic songs.
All three members are well known in the local folk circuit and we've also performed at local and national festivals.
During our time together, we've recorded several CDs. We have also been involved in a specialist project with Dr Alison Morgan of Warwick University to put some of the Broadside Ballads that she was researching relating to the Peterloo Massacres to some of the suggested melodies and this was also recorded as an EP
