Performer Information

Flossie Malavialle

Flossie is a unique performer. How many French chanteuses do you know who live in County Durham? She's also hugely talented. Her charismatic stage presence, gutsy guitar style, eclectic repertoire and Franglais patter never fail to inspire those lucky enough to hear her, Flossie taught English in a French School in the South of France for several years until she decided to reverse the process and improve her English by teaching French in an English School in Stockton-on-Tees.She came for a year in 2000, returned to France, but missed her new life so much she came back for keeps. Now, not only has her English improved, but it’s been greatly enhanced with the addition of endearing elements of both Geordie (h'away pet) and Yorkshire inflections (tha' knows); the outcome of ten years or more in the border country around Darlington.Flossie had been singing for years in France before coming to England and found it quite natural to turn up at the Darlington folk club one night for a bit of a sing, like. She didn't realise then that this was going to be the beginning of a new life in England for her.Now she's in great demand for appearances in folk clubs and festivals, village halls and arts centres, with a voice described as tuneful as a lark and a pureness of quality to stop you in your tracks.”Her songs range from folk favourites by Allan Taylor and Keiran Halpin to Edith Piaf's No Regrets and La Vie en Rose and Jacques Brel's Amsterdam and Ne me quitte pas. She also loves songs with what she calls Va-va-voom by such singers as Janis Joplin, Carole King, Bonnie Raitt and Kris Kristofferson.
